The Prowess Awards celebrate the women business owners who are giving a hand up to others, the dedicated supporters providing advice and mentoring, and the individuals and organisations who are shaping the women-friendly enterprise culture to the benefit of women and the UK economy. Together they are changing the face of enterprise.

The Awards are now in their 3rd year and open for nominations. The nomination process is straightforward to encourage a wide range of entries.

Award Categories

 

Business support Professional of the Year - an individual who provides outstanding suport to women starting or growing their businesses.

Nominations welcome from: Self, colleagues and clients. We would particularly like to encourage nominations from the 'unsung heros and heroines' in the business support profession.

Judging criteria: excellent skills and experience/personal and professional values/sustained commitment/positive impact and results/client affirmation.

Making an Impact  - for outstanding use of data and statistics to make the case for women’s enterprise support.

Nominations from: Anyone who wants to promote outstanding use of data and statistics which they are aware of. Self nominations are welcome and we particularly welcome nominations from the research community and government agencies.   

Judging criteria: effective application of data and statistics/ level of impact/ accessibility of information/ replicability.

Press Award - for the author of a press or media feature which most compellingly and progressively captures the issues facing women business owners.

Nominations from: Anyone who wants to share a fantastic article which they have read. Self nominations are also welcome.

Judging criteria: accuracy/ compelling nature / progressive new ideas and thinking.

Innovator Award - an organisational award for innovation in the field of women’s enterprise support.

Nominations from: We are asking innovative organisations to nominate themselves. They may need encouragement from friends and colleagues! 

Judging criteria: quality of the product or service/ level of innovation/ positive impact and results/ client affirmation/ replicability.

Female Business Mentor of the Year - an individual award for an outstanding volunteer mentor.

Inspirational Business Mum – for an entrepreneurial mum who’s overcome adversity and got the balance right, with a story to inspire many others.

Inspirational Woman - for a woman entrepreneur who is an outstanding role model and active supporter of other women.

Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Enterprise Development -  for the individual who has made the most outstanding contribution to positively progressing the policy, economic or cultural environment for women entrepreneurs.

Nominations from:  Self, friends, colleagues, professional advisers.

Judging criteria: direct impact on policy, economic or the cultural environment/ personal and professional values/ sustained commitment/ colleague affirmations.

Submitting a Nomination

 

All nominations must be submitted by email and in electronic format only, by 5 pm Friday 12 January 2007. Please include the following information, in this order:

Category which the nomination is for.

  • Name of the nominee, individual or organisation and their contact details (address, phone, email). If the nominee is an organisation please provide a key contact.
  • Name and contact details of the person submitting the nomination.
  • Nomination statement in no more than 700 words (please use the judging criteria as sub-headings within the statement)
  • Supporting evidence eg. affirmations, letters of support, articles, reports etc

* All awards are open to both male and female nominees apart from the ‘inspirational’ awards.

Presentation of the Awards

The awards will be presented at the Gala Awards Dinner during the 4th Annual International Prowess Conference at Brighton Racecourse, 7 February.

 

“It’s great working with women entrepreneurs, and to receive an award for something I really enjoy doing is very special” - Nina Sian of Slough Enterprise Gateway, winner of Business Support Professional of the Year 2006.

"This award reflects the combined effort of so many people I have worked with in driving forward the women's enterprise agenda in the UK" - Isabella Moore CBE, winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Women's Enterprise Development Award 2006.
